David Mitchell
David Mitchell was born near Edinburg, Clark county, Indiana, one of the five sons born to William Mitchell of North Carolina and Susan Zink of South Carolina. In the fall of 1855, when a lad of twelve they emigrated to Iowa and settled in Clarke county, where he has since resided. He was united in marriage to Margaret Stephenson in 1861, she having preceded him in death in 1900. This union resulted in five sons and three daughters. The three surviving sons, Arley J., Frederic D. and Thos. E., are left with the memory of a kind and indulgent father who will be greatly missed by them. He also leaves one brother, Eli, of Strang, Nebr. who was present at the funeral; Alfred, a half brother, of Carson, Iowa; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren to mourn their loss.

He was 84 years, 10 months and 17 days old at the time of his death. He peacefully fell asleep at the Shively Sanitarium Sunday morning at three o'clock. His remains were taken to the county home of his son, Thomas E.

Funeral services were conducted at the union church at 2 o'clock p.m. Tuesday by Rev. Douglas of the Murray M.E. church. Interment was made in the nearby cemetery by the side of his wife and where lay the earth;y remains of his five children who have passed to the great beyond.

"Uncle Dave" will be greatly missed by his neighbors and friends who until the last few years on account of failing health has been very active in the upbuilding of the county from almost virgin soil to the present condition.
