Joseph H. Deitrick was born at Osceola, Iowa, November 30, 1867, a son of Joseph and Elizabeth Deitrick. There he grew to manhood and on March 23, 1892, was united in marriage to Miss Sadie Margaret Schaffer at Osceola. They moved to Arlington, Minn., in the spring of 1915. There they farmed until the fall of 1923, when they moved to Sandstone. They farmed east of town until 1943, when the moved to the village to make their home.

Mr. Deitrick was a faithful Christian and was baptized in the Methodist Protestant church at Fremont, Iowa, 45 years ago. He was an ideal husband and father and his first thoughts were always for his wife and children. He had a very pleasing personality and made a host of friends.

Mr. Deitrick is survived by his wife, Sadie, three daughters, Lillie, (Gladys) Mrs. Louis Schaefer and (Minnie) Mrs. Henry Borchard, all of Sandstone; and one son, Alvie, of Mediapolis, Iowa; six grandsons, three of them, Roy, Delbert and Everett Schaefer, who are in the service overseas; one grandson and one brother, Alvie Deitrick, of St. Peter, Minn. Their oldest son, Franklin, passed away in 1918 at Camp Pike, Little Rock, Ark., while serving with the armed forces during World War I.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Evangelical Free Church at 2 o'clock, Rev. Andrew Johnson officiating. Songs were sung by Mrs. Russell Soderquist. The church was filled by those who came to pay their last respects to a fine old gentleman.

The pall-bearers were old friends and neighbors; Ole Olson, Gerbon Postma, Martin Dietz, Fred Anderson, Albin Larson and Ernest Larson. Interment was made in Spring Park cemetery.

The many friends extend sympathy to the bereaved family in their sorrow.
