Julia P. Funderburk was born September 16, 1859, and departed this life May 4, 1901, aged forty-one years, seven months and eighteen days. She was born in Christian county, Illinois, near Grant City, and lived there till about twenty years of age. She then moved with her parents to Moultrie county, Illinois, near Sulvan, where she was married to Baxter D. Patterson, August 30, 1892. This union was blessed with six children, five boys and one girl. Mr. and Mrs. Patterson moved from Illinois to Clarke county, Iowa, some five years ago and settled on the farm where deceased died. Mrs. Patterson was converted and joined the M. E. church when a girl. One year ago last winter she renewed her covenant at Fremont church and God wonderfully blessed her. She died in the triumph of the faith and has reached the golden shore.
Sister Patterson was a true loyal wife, a loving, devoted mother, a kind neighbor. She was a loving, devoted child to her aged mother, who made her home with her. She was a true sister to her brothers. All will miss Mrs. Patterson. The morning before she died she called her husband and children and talked to them. To her boys she said: Be good boys and meet me in heaven." Told them she wanted them to be honorable men when they reached the years of manhood. She then had her baby brought and kissed it a mother's parting blessing. To her mother she said, she would soon be home.
Mrs. Patterson leaves to mourn her loss, a husband and six children; Artie, eighteen years old; Rex, sixteen; Guy, fourteen; Mabel, nine; Victor, six, and baby two weeks and three days old. She leaves an aged mother and three brothers, John T. Funderburk of Missouri; C. C. of Illinois and D. W.
