Obituary

George William Buckalew

George William Buckalew, son of John and Clara Buckalew, was born near Unionville, Putnam County, on August 29, 1867, and passed away near Chariton, Iowa, on March 28, 1945, at the age of 74 years, 7 months and 28 days. He came to Iowa in 1917 and has since farmed in Lucas and Clark counties. In every community in which he lived, he endeavored in, he a trustworthy citizen, a loyal friend and a good neighbor, and had won the esteem of all with whom he came in contact. His sudden demise is greatly deplored. Surviving him are six children, Mrs. J. F. Brown, of Indianola; Robert and Basil Buckalew, of Chariton; Clint Buckalew, of Burlington Junction, Mo.; Mrs. Ray Wood and Mrs. G. C. Demass, both of whom reside in Washington; five half- brothers; and 23 grandchildren. His wife preceded him in death in May, 1943. Funeral services conducted by Rev. W. N. Browning, were held at Bethel Chapel in Clarke county at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon. The burial was in Bethel Chapel Cemetery beside his companion.
