Leonard Linder
Leonard Lyle Linder, son of Carl and Cecile Tompkins Linder, was born Dec. 31, 1916, in Osceola and died Nov. 13, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. He was 86.

He graduated from Osceola High School in 1934 and from Osceola Junior College in 1936.

He married Kathryn Emma Neveln on June 6, 1938, in Osceola. He taught school for a time in rural Clarke County and in 1937 he began working at Iowa Southern Utilities in Osceola as a meter reader. In 1953 he moved his family to Centerville and worked as a systems operating engineer and later he became operations manager. He retired from Iowa Southern Utilities in 1982.

He was a member of Drake Avenue Christian Church in Centerville where he was a church leader and sang in the church choir for many years. He received the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America for his 25 years of service as a Boy Scout Leader.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife on Aug. 11, 1996.

He is survived by his three sons, Lyle Linder and his wife, Kathryn Linder, of Gladstone, Mo., Donald Linder and his wife, Sharen Linder, of Palatine, Ill. and Wayne Linder and his wife, Noel Linder, of Wichita, Kan.; a brother, Bernard Linder of Osceola; a sister, Norma Corn of Grove, Okla.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Nov. 17 at Drake Avenue Christian Church in Centerville, the Rev. Carl Heien officiating. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery at Osceola.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Drake Avenue Christian Church and can be mailed to Schmidt Family Funeral Home at 501 North 18th Street in Centerville, IA 52544.
