Marvin Osgood
Marvin Raymond Osgood, son of James William Osgood and Myrtle Hilterbrand Osgood, was born March 18, 1915, in Clarke County and died Dec. 5, 2003, at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola. He was 88.

He attended Clarke County rural schools including Pleasant Ridge. He enjoyed attending barn dances in his youth.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II for three years and spent two years overseas; he fought in the Battle of Normandy and also was in northern France and central Europe.

Mr. Osgood was a farmer and lived in Clarke County except from 1979 to 1995.

Mr. Osgood married M. Hazel Dickey on Dec. 9, 1978, at Truro; they lived in various locations in Missouri until 1995 when they returned to Iowa to make their home in Osceola. Mrs. Osgood died April 6, 2000.

Mr. Osgood was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers, Vernen LeRoy and Gernie Russell and a sister, Velma Miler.

He is survived by 12 nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Alice Osgood of Moncks Corner, S.C. and Etta Osgood of Pompano Beach, Fla.; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were Dec. 8 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, the Rev. Neville Clayton of Osceola officiating. Organist was Virginia Reynolds and soloist was Pastor Chuck DeVos. Musical selections were Beautiful Garden of Prayer and We Are Going Down the Valley.

Casket bearers were Eldon Proctor, Norman Cook, Larry Phillips, Gary Phillips, Robert Snyder, Red Thompson and Phillip Henrichs. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery at Osceola.
