Ralph Burgan, Winterset

Ralph Burgan, 96, of Winterset died March 11, 2000 of congestive heart failure at Integrated Health Services in Winterset. Funeral services were March 14 at Collin Funeral Home. The Rev. Bill Branson officiated the services and burial followed at East Union Cemetery in Clarke County.

He was born May 2, 1903 in Barney to John and Mary Elizabeth (Hamblin) Burgan. He married Mina Thurman February 2, 1927 in Madison County. He was a retired farmer and a resident of Winterset and Madison County for 21 years coming from Clarke County. He attended the Church of the Nazarine in Winterset and the Church of God in Lorimor in earlier years. He was a member of Men of Vision, served on school boards, county fairs, election boards and was active in the community and community affairs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers and four sisters.

Surviving relatives include three sons, Donald Merle Burgan and wife Helen, Virgil Dean Burgan and his wife Mary, all of Des Moines, and Gerald Lee Burgan of Glenwood; one daugher, Iola Marie Seekins and husband Arden of Jonesboro, Indiana; one brother, John Burgan of Rialto, California; two sisters, Kate Baker of Mineral Wells, Texas, and Rachel Byrum of Anderson, Indiana; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
