In Response To: Re: Hiram Hall (Mike Peterson)

Here is what I have on Hiram Hall.

I have his birth of 1806 in either Vermont or NY.

He died between June 14, 1880 and January 1885 (dates of the two censuses).

There are some inconsistencies in these census but I also know there were many errors in the census information.

1850 USA Census - Koshkonong, Jefferson, Wisconsin
Hiram Hall age 46, born Vermont, occupation Farmer
Jane age 36, born Ireland
Brice (spelling not clear) age 13, born New York
John age 11 born New York
Daniel age 7, born Wisconsin
Charlotte age 3, born Wisconsin
David age 1 born Wisconsin

1860 USA Census - Farmington Jefferson, Wisconsin
Hiram Hall age 54, born Ireland, occupation Farmer ( I am sure the places of birth for Hiram and Jane were inverted in error)
Jane, age 44, born Vermont
Daniel age 15, born Wisconsin
Margaret age 13, born Wisconsin
William age 11, born Wisconsin
John age 8, born Wisconsin
Enis (spelling?) age 5, born Wisconsin
Maria age 5/12, born Wisconsin

1870 USA Census - Bradford, Chickasaw, Iowa (living 4 houses from Charlotte Hall Bean and Henry Bean)
Hiram Hall age 48, born New York, occupation Farmer
Jane age 49, born New York
William age 20, born New York
John age 17, born New York
Eri age 13, born New York
Maria age 10, born New York

John B. Hall’s (Hiram and Jane's son) death February 15, 1880
His obituary indicated:
"Hall, Friday, Feb. 15, 1880, John B. Hall, aged twenty seven years, one month and eighteen days.
The subject of this obituary was born in Jefferson County, Wisconsin, and removed to this state with his parents, Mr. Hiram and Mrs. Jane Hall, and on March 1st, 1874, was married to a daughter of Mr. Alexander Jones, of Chickasaw township. The deceased was widely known and respected for his honesty and integrity of character. He leaves a young wife and one child entitled to sympathy for their bereavement.”

1880 USA Census - Bradford, Chickasaw, Iowa - June 14, 1880
Hiram Hall age 74, born Vermont, occupation Farmer
Jane age 64, born Ireland
William age 28, born Wisconsin
Eri age 24, born Wisconsin
Maria age 19, born Wisconsin

1885 Iowa Census - Bradford, Chickasaw, Iowa - January 1885 (date per Chickasaw genealogy society)
William H. Hall age 35, born Wisconsin,
Mariah (Spelling?) age 23 born Wisconsin
Jane Hall age 70 born Ireland, listed as a Widow
Eri Hall age 36, born Wisconsin
Harriet Bean age 12 - no relationship documented but possibly Charlotte Hall Bean’s daughter.

I have spoken with staff from Oak Hill Cemetery and they have verified that Hiram is buried there with his wife, Jane Hall. The cemetery has checked their records and do not have any burial information about him. Jerry Adelmund from Oak Hill Cemetery wrote the following:
“Unfortunately, the deed book that Hiram and Jane’s lots were recorded in was lost in the 1940’s. Book G, in which it was probably recorded was mostly deeds from the early 1930’s. So it would be around or prior to 1934 or so.” I asked about Beck Cemetery because that is where Jane’s obituary indicated she was buried, he responded, “Yes, Beck Cemetery, is also knows as Riverton Twp (Floyd County) Cemetery. Many families removed burials from several country cemeteries to Oak Hill once it was well established. Riverton cemetery is north of Nashua on Old Highway 218. Unfortunately, I do not have them on my list of those moved to Oak Hill, but that doesn’t mean they weren’t."

Coincidently, here is another Hiram Hall buried in the same cemetery but his wife’s name is Lenora and that Hiram died in 1904.

Cemetery information:
Oak Hill Cemetery
Nashua
Chickasaw County
Iowa, USA
Plot: Block B, row 15, Lot 38, grave 12
they are buried in the Henry Bean lot and Charlotte Hall (Hiram and Jane's daughter) is also buried there.

I have written the Chickasaw Genealogy Society, they responded that they found nothing regarding Hiram and Jane Hall

I have written to Iowa State for for death certificate for Hiram, Jane, and their son, a John B. Hall - they responded that they had nothing.

I sent a request to Chickasaw County vital records at the suggestion of the State and they responded that they have no information.

I have contacted the mortuaries in the area to check their records which led me to quite a few possibilities - no information.
I have contacted the Beck/Riverside cemetery caretaker - no information

I have written the Nashua Library regarding any information. They did not have additional information.
