Mrs. Augusta Ernestine Broege Guetzmer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christ Broege, was born May 10, 1861, at Bloomberg near Doelizt in the Province Pommerania, Germany. In holy baptism her parents presented her to the Lord, and after she had received the necessary instruction in God's Word as it is interpreted by the Lutheran church she was confirmed in her home church. At the age of 12 years, her mother passed to the great beyond, leaving her to take care of a family of 4 brothers. The duty she faithfully fulfilled, as it was also carried out in her own home. In 1883 she came to this country with a girl friend, not fearing the long journey alone. She trusted in the Lord with these words, "Where he leads me, I will follow on."

She was married to W. F. Guetzmer August 10, 1887. This union was blessed with 8 children, two of whom preceded their mother in death. Those that are left to mourn her death are: Mrs. Edith Fuchs of Winslow, Ill.; Mrs. Adolph Wolff of Nashua; Mrs. Emma Gureski of Oelwein; Mrs. Manila Schoespke, Mrs. Alfred Vetter, Nashua; Mrs. Anna Monke, Marble Rock; two step-brothers, 23 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, besides many other relatives and friends. She was ill with a severe cold only a few days, passing away Feb. 19 at 9:10 a. m. at the age of 74 years, 8 months and 3 days. She was ever ready to meet her Lord and did not fear her death. The children can testify that she, a true Christian mother, died in the faith that had been the strength of her life and her work of love. We shall miss her in many ways and her memory shall be blessed.

The funeral was held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Schoespke at whose place she had made her home since the death of her husband, at two o'clock, with Rev. Conrad J. Rebelein officiating, with interment at Oak Hill cemetery.
