Funeral Rites Are Held Today For Thos. Britt
March 29, 1946

Funeral services were held at 9:30 o'clock Friday morning, Mar 29 at Mt. Carmel Church, Lawler, for Thomas Britt, prominent farmer of that vicinity, whose death occurred Tuesday afternoon at his home while engaged in duties about the farm.

His health had not been of the best for the past few years but his death was entirely unexpected.

Rev. James Delay, pastor of Mr. Carmel, officiated at the requiem high mass with Fr. Leen, pastor of St. Joseph's Church, New Hampton, assisting with the full church choir singing the responses.

Casket bearers were Wm. Nulty, Ed Arens, Ray Nulty, Louis Belong, Bennie Nulty and Leo Conner, all of Lawler. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
The son of Patrick and Mary Britt he was born October 10, 1876 in County Cork, Ireland. He came to America in 1898 and was for a time employed in packing houses in Chicago. In 1905 he began farming in Clinton county where he remained until 1912 when he moved to the farm he had purchased south of Lawler where he resided at the time of his death.

On February 6, 1907 Mr. Britt was married to Rosa Wulf at Grand Mound, Iowa, who with their eleven children, six daughters and five sons, survive to mourn his passing. They are Raymond Britt, Fredericksburg; Sylvester and Jerome Britt, Charles City, Stasia, Mrs. Frank Junko and Ruby Mrs. Joe Kisley, Lawler; Mildred, Mrs. Clifford Howe, Madonna and Gerald Britt of Waterloo; Lorraine, Mrs. Greg Pitz, New Hampton; Oliver Britt stationed in Tokyo, Japan; and Bernadette at home. All except Oliver were present for the last rites.

Also surviving are twenty-one grandchildren and a sister and brother, Mrs. Delia Flatley, South Bend, Indiana and Patrick Britt, DeWitt, Iowa.

Mr. Britt was an active member of Mt. Carmel Church, giving generously of his time and finances in its support. His devotion to his adopted country was an outstanding example of patriotism.. He was generous in giving to those less fortunate. But Mr. Britt's first concern was for his family and his friends.

He will be greatly missed in his many capacities by a large circle of friends and relatives.
