DEATH COMES WHILE WORKING IN GARDEN

Mrs. Teresa Schnurr, 86, died suddenly at her home on South Chestnut Ave. Saturday morning, June 6, as the result of a heart attack which occurred while she was working in her garden. Mrs. Schnurr had arisen as usual and not previously been ill. She had been in the garden but a short time when the fatal attack occurred at about 8:00 o'clock.

Teresa Peters was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nick (Derga) Peters and was born in Rickardsville, Dubuque county, Iowa, on Sept. 27, 1872. Her parents came to Chickasaw county when she was but two years old. She had resided here ever since.

On Jan. 5, 1892, Teresa Peters and Charles W. Schnurr were united in marriage in St. Joseph's church, New Hampton, by the Rev. Fr. Carroll. Eight children were born to this union. Mr. Schnurr, a veteran police officer of both the county and city, died Oct. 14, 1953.

Mrs. Schnurr was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Rosary and Altar Society.

Surviving are Arthur and Marie at home, Clarence and Aloysius of New Hampton, Frank of Elma, Clem of Oelwein and Mrs. Lee (Evelyn) Wallace of Waterloo. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, including Walter of Lawler and John of Oelwein whom the Schnurrs raised after the death of their mother; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lena Brannon of Waterloo and Mrs. Susan Roths of Ionia; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Schnurr was preceded in death, besides her husband, by one son, Walter Edward, in infancy; two sisters, Mrs. Frances Shinstine and Mrs. Mary Krueger; four brothers, Matthew, Nickolas, Michael and Charles; and two sisters, in infancy.

Larkin's Funeral Service was in charge of funeral arrangements. Rosary was recited at 8 o'clock at Larkin's Chapel. Last rites were held from St. Mary's Church at 9:30 Monday morning with the pastor, the Rev. Fr. J. J. Olinger officiating at the requiem high mass. Interment was in the parish cemetery with the following casket bearers: William Dee, Aloysius Forkenbrock, Paul Shinstine, Edward Krueger, Galen Folkers and Richard Brannon, Waterloo.
