Hulda Diekmann

LAWLER -- Hulda Rose Diekmann, 74, died Monday, Aug. 16 at the Schoitz Memorial Hospital hospice unit, Waterloo.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 19, at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Hampton. Rev. Bernard Oebser officiated.

Jack Kendall provided music including "How Great Thou Art," "In The Garden," and "Be Not Afraid." Edith Kolthoff was organist.

A wake was held at Larkin-Martin Funeral Home on Wednesday evening, Aug. 18.

Casket bearers were Linus Bodensteiner, Chuck Speicher, Bailey Frye, Bob Siglin, Charles Schuchhardt and Jim Schuchhardt. Burial was in St. John's Cemetery, Boyd.

She was born Feb. 25, 1908, at Westhausen, Germany, and migrated to America in 1925, when she was 17, settling near Boyd. She attended school in Germany.

On June 5, 1928, she married Albert C. Diekmann at Greeley, Co. He died Aug. 30, 1967, after farming east of New Hampton. In 1973, she moved to Lawler, where she was active in senior citizens activities. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, New Hampton.

Survivors include one daughter Mrs. Larry (Darlene) Throndson, New Hampton; two grandchildren, Robert and Jessica; three sisters, Mrs. Clifford (Johanna) Snider, Lawler, Mrs. Martha Grieger, Westhausen, East Germany, and Mrs. Frieda Jaster, Largensalza, East Germany.

Proceding her in death were three brothers, Paul Schuchhardt, New Hampton, Walter Schuchhardt, Alta Vista, and Theodore Schuchhardt, Westhausen, East Germany.

**** She died on August 16, 1982. Source of this article is unkown to me. I only possess a clipping.
**** Albert C. Diekmann, her husband, is also her half cousin. Thus, the marriage occured in Colorado where it was legal to marry your half cousin and not in Iowa.
