CEDAR FALLS - Donald Earl Masters, 87, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Waterloo and Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, June 14, 2005, at the Cedar Falls Western Home.

He was born April 4, 1918, near Jesup, son of Roy and Carrie Griswold Masters. He married Melba Jarchow Sept. 4, 1941, in Fredericksburg. To this union two daughters were born.

He graduated from Jesup High School in 1935. Donald was inducted into the U.S. Army Dec. 9, 1942 and served with the 14th Armored Division of the 4th Army under Gen. George Patton during the Battle of the Bugle in World War II. He was honorably discharged Nov. 16, 1945, at Fort Sheridan.

Mr. Masters worked at Rath Packing, Titus Manufacturing and retired from road maintenance with the Iowa Department of Transportation.

Survived by his wife, Melba Masters of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Ruth Ann (Paul) Daugherty of Cedar Falls and Janice Scobee of Milan, Mo.; a sister, Winifred (Harold) Foster of Fredericksburg; four grandchildren, Larry (Trisha) Seemann of Waterloo, Lloyd Shriver of Kirksville, Mo., Cheri (Greg) Karbacka of Dysart and Tim (Kristin) Wessels of Bloomington, Minn.; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Gwendelyn Mason and Marie Jones.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at the Western Home Chapel, 420 E. 11th St., Cedar Falls. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the chapel, and from 2 to 3 p.m. at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, Fredericksburg, with committal services to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, also in Fredericksburg. Military rites will be conducted by Fredericksburg AMVETS Post No. 90.
