FREDERICKSBURG - Donald R. "Pete" Peterson, 68, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at his daughter's home in Cedar Falls of cancer.

He was born Oct. 2, 1940, in Minneapolis, son of Gilbert J. and Lenora H. Haupt Peterson. On Sept. 26, 1965, he married Judith Kerr at United Methodist Church, Fredericksburg. She died May 14, 2005.

Mr. Peterson graduated from the New Hampton School District in 1959, then served in the U.S. Army. He worked at the DX Station, Fredericksburg, and then for the city of Fredericksburg for 28 years, retiring in 2003. He was a member of the Fredericksburg Fire Department for 26 years.

Survived by a son, Perry (Carla Becker) of Manchester; a daughter, Penny (Joel) Lang of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren; a great-grandson; and a sister, Helen Brown of Fredericksburg.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, both in Fredericksburg. Military rites will be conducted by Fredericksburg AMVETS. Public visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, Fredericksburg, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, Fredericksburg AMVETS, Fredericksburg Fire Department or American Cancer Society.
