Jeanne A. Johnston, age 87 of Nashua, Iowa died Saturday morning January 17, 2009, at the New Hampton Care Center in New Hampton.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua with Father Carl Ries officiating.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Charles City. Jeanne’s grandchildren and great grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to services at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua (641) 435-4134.

Jeanne Ann Johnston was born April 11, 1921, at Waterloo, Iowa. She was the daughter of Peter and Bessie (Potachech) Sulentic. She attended school in Waterloo and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1937. She then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls for two years. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Johnston At St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waterloo in 1941. To this union three boys were born.

Kenneth & Jeanne farmed north of Bassett for a number of years before moving to and developing Woodhaven Estates in rural Ionia. They moved to Nashua about 10 years ago. She became a resident of New Hampton Care Center in April of 2008 due to failing health. Jeanne worked at Sara Lee for a couple of years but was a homemaker most of her life. She was an excellent cook and the thought of her food still brings smiles to the family. She also enjoyed dancing and was a gifted singer.

Jeanne is survived by her husband, Kenneth; three sons, Kenny Johnston of Elma, Peter (Becky) Johnston of Ionia and Mike (Carolyn) Johnston of Nevis, MN; nine grandchildren, Jason (Holly) Johnston, Patrick Johnston, Jody (Brian) Mulligan, Jeremy Johnston, Jennifer Johnston, Kevin Demro, Christopher Demro, Tim Fritze and Terry Fritze; seven great grandchildren, Payten & Carter Johnston, Jared & Seth Johnston, Abby & Lilly Demro and Randy Fritze; one brother, William Sulentic of Cedar Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Betty and Deloras.
