Gerald Adam Marth, 85, of New Hampton, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born May 8, 1923, near Marble Rock, son of John Adam and Esther Elma Gauger Marth. He married June Helen Ernst on Feb. 27, 1949, at Zion Lutheran Church, Rockford.

He graduated from Charles City High School in 1940 and served in the U.S. Army from 1947 to 1948. Mr. Marth had a farming operation and also worked at White Farm in Charles City for 15 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.

Survived by his wife; three sons, Stephen (Cate) of San Ramon, Calif., Kenneth (Wanda) of Ottumwa and Brian (Deb) of Omaha, Neb.; three daughters, Judy (Rob) Stevens of Albany, N.Y., Rebecca (Jim) Silcott of Liberty, Mo., and Brenda (David) Vesley of Houston; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Bernice (Bill) Homer of Polk City and Helen (Warren) Auestad of Des Moines.

Preceded in death by a sister, Rose Miller; and a brother-in-law, Harry Miller.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church, Nashua, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City. Public visitation from 1 to 4 p.m. today at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, Nashua, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.
