Luella M. Stirm age 83 of Nashua died Monday afternoon, January 12, 2009 at the Eleventh Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 16, 2009 at St. John‘s United Church of Christ / Pleasant Hill rural Nashua, Iowa with Rev. Charles L. Dorsey officiating. Mary Jo Stille will be the organist and lead the congregation in the singing of “The Old Rugged Cross”, “Just A Closer Walk With Thee” and “How Great Thou Art”.

Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery rural Nashua with David Hauser, James Hauser, Donald Stille, Daniel Stille, Phillip Hauser and Steven Hauser serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Memorials may be directed to: The Luella Stirm Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 23, Hampton, Iowa 50441.

Luella Magdalene Stirm was born August 12, 1925, on the family farm in Butler County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Frederick and Amelia (Litterer) Hauser. She was baptized on September 15, 1925 and confirmed on March 17, 1940. Luella attended rural school at Fremont #8 in Butler County and graduated from the Nashua High School in 1944. She earned her teaching degree at Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls.

Luella was united in marriage to Edward C. Stirm on May 23, 1948, at St. John’s United Church of Christ - Pleasant Hill, rural Nashua. They resided and farmed various farms in Butler and Bremer Counties. Luella taught rural schools for 10 years until the birth of her children, Mark and Connie. They owned and operated two vacation resorts in Canada for 18 years and later owned the Pinicon Restaurant in New Hampton for four years. In 1968, Ed and Luella built a new home on their farm southwest of Nashua where they lived until Ed’s death in 1997. Luella moved to Nashua and in 1999 became a resident at the Eleventh Street Chautauqua Guest Home. Luella was a life-long member of St. John’s United Church of Christ and was a member of the church choir.

Luella is survived by her children, Mark Stirm and Connie Thompson both of Nashua; two brothers, Eldon (Evelyn) Hauser of Clarksville and Paul (Joyce) Hauser of Hampton; one sister, Helen Stille of Nashua; one sister-in-law, Edna Hauser (Art) Kohls.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward on June 25, 1997; her parents; two brothers, Leonard and Theophil Hauser; a son-in-law, Eric Thompson; a brother-in-law, Paul Stille.
