James Bruess

James Clem Bruess, 67, of Little Turkey, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, at St. Joseph's Community Hospital in New Hampton, following an apparent heart attack.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, Dec. 1, at 11 a.m., at Assumption Catholic Church in Little Turkey, with the Rev. Allen Schmitt celebrating the mass.

Music for the mass will be provided by Verda Mikota as organist, and Harlan Mikota and Colleen Busta as vocalists.

Casket bearers will be Larry Bruess, Donald Bruess Jr., Rod Lensing, Brian Bruess, Ken Bruess, Ivan Bullerman, Ron Franzen and Randy Bruess.

Interment will be at the St. Mary's Cemetery, Little Turkey. The Larkin-Martin-Hugeback Funeral Home of New Hampton handled arrangements.

James was born Nov. 28, 1931, on the family farm near St. Lucas, the son of John and Caroline (Bodensteiner) Bruess. He attended school in St. Lucas and grew up in this area.

He was a United States Army veteran, having served in 1954-55.

On June 24, 1958, he married Elizabeth Keying of Festina. Seven years after the death of Elizabeth, he married Wilma Bader-Remetch of Waterloo Oct. 21, 1996.

James sold Archer Oil while farming near Little Turkey. His favorite pastimes were fishing and playing cards.

Memberships included Assumption Catholic Church of Little Turkey, the Redman American Legion Post No. 279 of Lawler and the V.F.W. Post No. 3902 of Fort Atkinson.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma; two daughters, Carla Bruess of Waucoma, and Lori and Jim Koester of West Union; three sons, Gary "George", Steve and Jim Bob Bruess, all of Waucoma; two grandchildren, Nicole and Rudy Koester; three step-daughters, Sheryl Boose, Michelle Clark and Mary Ann Dahl; four step-sons, Randy, Michael, John and Doug Remetch; two sisters, Mrs. Alphonse (Alice) Bullerman of Waterloo and Mrs. Stephen (Arlene) Lensing of Calmar; three brothers, Art and Irene Bruess of Protivin, Donald Bruess of Ridgeway, and Clarence and Mary Lou Bruess of Madison, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.

James Bruess was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Elizabeth, who died Sept. 24, 1989; two sisters, Lucille Lechtenberg and Wilma Franzen; and two brothers, Cornell and John Bruess.
