Sophia Vrzak

Sophia Vrzak, 98, of Waucoma, died Monday, March 22, 1999, at the New Hampton Health and Rehabilitation Center, following a short illness.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 26, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waucoma, with the Rev. Ray Ludwig celebrating the mass.

Servers were Amy Hoey and Aaron Wenthold. Cross bearer was Michael Hoey.

The lector was Mary Ann Ott. Offertory gifts were received by Susie (Mayo) Swestka and Gina (Humpal) Goods. Ministers of the eucharist were Sharon McDowell and Shirley Riha. Jeannie Riha was the organist. Music was by the St. Mary's choir.

Casket bearers were David Mayo, Gene Ott, Eugene Boyer, Andy Meyer, Rodney Vrzak and Dennis Boyer.

Burial was at the St. Mary's Catholic Church cemetery. The Waucoma Funeral Chapel handled arrangements.

Sophia (Ott) Vrzak was born Feb. 20, 1901, at St. Lucas, the daughter of Michael and Margaret (Erth) Ott. On June 27, 1921, she married John Vrzak at St. Lucas.

The couple farmed near Little Turkey. In the late 1930s, they moved to New Hampton. John died in 1961.

Sophia was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She entered the New Hampton care facility in February of this year.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Sophia Vrzak was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; five brothers; and four sisters.
