ADELIA GUYER

One of the saddest of deaths was that of Mrs. Adelia GUYER at the home of her son, Charles, five miles east of this village, Friday of last week. She had come but a week before for a visit with her son and a day or two before complained of not feeling exactly well. On that day she had her breakfast at about nine o’clock and after talking with Charlie for a few moments said she would lie down again. She took her medicine twice after that and then apparently sank into a light sleep and at about noon when Charlie came into the house and went into the room to see if she wanted anything he discovered she had just died.

Since the death of her husband Mrs. GUYER had made her home with one or the other of her children and she had but a day before sent word to one of her sons to come up from Clermont, Iowa, and accompany her down there, and her death being so entirely unexpected was all the more crushing to her children.

The funeral took place from the Brethren church Sunday afternoon, Rev. Bower preaching the sermon and then the body was taken on the night train to Clermont, Iowa accompanied by her sons Charles GUYER and Eli HUFFMAN for burial.

She was born in Indiana in 1836 and was married in 1854 to Henry HUFFMAN who died in 1863. In 1865 she was married to Daniel GUYER at Chickasaw, Iowa and eight children, two brothers and a sister are left to morn her loss. Of these only Charley of this place, Eli HUFFMAN of Clermont and Mrs. Ruth GRANGER of Burtrum were able to get here in time for the funeral.

The sympathy of the entire neighborhood goes out to the children and especially to Charles who is so well known here in their great and sudden sorrow and they wish us through the columns of our paper to express to all who so kindly aided them in their trouble their deep appreciation of the many acts of kindness shown them during the death and burial of their mother.

Contributer Notes:
I am not certain of the newspaper but I believe it is from Hancock, MN. The Burtrum referred to is Burtrum, MN. The Friday of last week referred to is April 1, 1910.
