WILLIAM H. LARRABEE DIES AT AGE OF 87
PIONEER OF WEST PART OF COUNTY
PASSES AWAY AFTER LONG DISABILITY
FROM PARALYSIS

At the home of his son, Sidney, north of Bassett, Iowa, there passed from earthly environment the soul of a man whose life was note worthy, not only for its longevity but for its influence for good.

William H. LARRABEE was born in the town of Boston, Erie County, New York Jan. 1, 1825 and therefore at the time of his death was aged 87 years and 6 days. Six days in the dawning year the waning life of this strong man held its course and on the seventh day he rested.

The history of the deceased begins at the age of 9 years, when he moved with his parents from the place of his birth to Erie County Pennsylvania. When he was 17 the family made its first move westward locating in Cuyahoga County, Ohio near the city of Cleveland. In Cuyahoga County he came to mans estate and was united in marriage with Miss. E. TIBBETTS on the 25th of December, 1845. Five years later he took his family to Elkhart, Indiana and again after 5 years stay journeyed westward locating in Winnebago County, Ill. About a year later in 1856 he came to Chickasaw, Iowa where he remained until his death, a period of about 56 years.

Mr. LARRABEE was the father of 5 children. They are Mrs. J. HEATH of Hancock, Minn., Mrs. J. H. HUFFMANN of Hancock, Canada, Mrs. J. B. SUTTON of Canova, South Dakota, and E. M. and S. W. LARRABEE of this county. Besides these children he is survived by 26 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

The funeral was held at the M. E. church in Bassett on Tues. at 10 o’clock and was attended by many old neighbors and friends who had loved and respected the deceased for many years. Among the relatives from a distance were Mrs. Ellen HEATH of Hancock, Minn. daughter of the deceased and his nephews F. L. and F. G. LARRABEE of Dundee, Iowa.

Mr. LARRABEE came from a sturdy 15 children of whom only a brother and sister now survive. They are Mrs. Dehlia TIBBETTS of Spokan, Wash., and Mr. Myrinus LARRABEE of near Cleveland and who was related to the late martyred President GARFIELD.

Mr. LARRABEE came from a stock people, a family that knew the purpose of human life and those members have been instrumental in advancing the growth of our country in many parts and in manifold fields of endeavor.

As a man Mr. LARRABEE was the soul honor. As a parent, zellous of the welfare of those who were dependent upon him and as a neighbor, unfailing in his kindness and charity.
