R. D. Spencer of Bradford died at his home on Thursday 2-6-1890. R. D. Spencer was born 4-27-1845 at Marengo, Ill. He was married to Mary J. Penn 3-17-1868. He moved to Bremer co. Iowa in 1860 then to Bradford in 1869 where he lived until his death.

He enlisted in Co H 4th Iowa cavalry 12-1-1863 was discharged Aug 1865. His death was caused by lung trouble, contracted in the army while serving his country, but bore his pains and suffering with patience.

He was a loving husband and father. A good neighbor, loved and respected by all who knew him, always ready to do someone a kind act. Every one who knew him will mourn his death as a loss of a true friend.

The funeral was held at the Congregational Church, Bradford, last Sunday afternoon and was largely attended. Rever Packared officiating. - Nashua Reporter 2-13-1890.
