DEUTSCH, Florence 1915 - 2010

Florence Deutsch, 94 of Shell Rock, Iowa, formerly of New Hampton, died Tuesday evening, March 30, at the Shell Rock HealthCare Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Monday April 5, at Holy Family Parish, St. Mary's Center in New Hampton with Monsignor Carl Schmitt officiating. The pall will be placed by her four children. Lectors for the service will be Tom Deutsch and Julie Wendl. Granddaughters Kelli Schnurrl, Allison Rojek, and Shawna Kurth will present the offertory gifts.

Interment will be in St Mary's Cemetery, New Hampton with grandsons Jeff Schmidt, Joel Schmidt, Jake Schmidt, Matt Deutsch, David Deutsch, Josh Deutsch and Brian Schnurr serving as pallbearers.

Visitation is 4 - 7 p.m. Sunday April 4 at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, New Hampton where there will be a 6:30 p.m. Scripture Service. Further visitation will be 8:30 - 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Florence was born on a farm north of Elma, Iowa on October 6, 1915, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Mashek) Diesburg. She attended Immaculate Conception School in Elma, the Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls and Mercy College, Cedar Rapids, receiving her teaching degree. Florence taught in the rural schools of Howard County for seven years.

On September 23, 1941, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elma, she married Carl Deutsch. To this union, four children were born. The couple farmed northwest of New Hampton for 50 years before moving into New Hampton in 1989. Carl died on October 9, 1997, at the age of 82. In 2006, due to her failing health, Florence moved to The Meadows and the Shell Rock Health Care Center in Shell Rock to be near family. Florence was a member of Holy Family Parish, the Rosary Society, and the Country Neighbor’s Club.

Survivors include two sons, Leroy (Bonnie) Deutsch of Vinton and Leon (Linda) Deutsch of Wadena; two daughters, Mary (Larry) Schnurr of Mason City, Carol Deutsch-Schmidt of Rockford, IL; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and step-mother Helen Diesburg of Elma.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Willard Diesburg, Clarence Diesburg and Mark Diesburg; a half-sister; Connie (Diesburg) Batt.
