Merle D. Bartz, 82, passed away Sunday, February 7.

Merle Bartz lived life large. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he brought out the best of those around him.

He was born June 20, 1927 in New Hampton, Iowa, to Frederick Bartz and Irene Schima, both deceased. He served his country in the U.S. Navy, enlisting at age sixteen, from 1944-1946. He was in the building industry as a construction foreman and supervisor. He was also an excellent carpenter.

He married Juanita Merrick in 1958. They were blessed with three wonderful children, Gina (deceased), Brenden and Leah (Josie). They also adopted a son, Theodore Little. In December of 1975 he married Jean Brown (Rapp).

He was an avid supporter of Habitat For Humanity, often traveling to other locations to help build houses for the needy. He was heavily involved in supporting American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life. He was also an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Castle Rock, CO.

He is survived by his son, Brenden, wife Tina and grandchildren; Samantha and Hunter of Castle Rock, CO: Leah (Josie), husband Geoffrey Stephen and grandchildren; Tyler and Shelby of Castle Rock, CO; sister Helen (Roger) Wegner, and a brother Fred (Dorothy). His older brother Glenn preceded him in death.

He is also survived by his wife Jean; and her three children, Tom (Diane), Betsy (Herb), and Jim; 5 other grandchildren (9 total). Many extended family, great neighbors, wonderful church members, co-workers and friends will remember him fondly.
