Anthony John Heit, 85, of New Hampton died Tuesday night, March 19 at Saint Joseph Community Hospital after suffering a stroke.

Funeral services for Mr. Heit were at 10:30 a.m. Friday from St. Mary’s Catholic Church, New Hampton, with the Very Rev. J.J. Olinger officiating. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery with nephews as casket bearers.

Larkin – Martin Funeral Service had charge of arrangements.

Anthony Heit was born September 11, 1888 in New Hampton Township, the son of William and Margaret Papenheim Heit. He was married to the former Marie Katherine Klassen on February 11, 1915 at Ionia. They farmed south of New Hampton from 1915 to 1947, when they moved to New Hampton. Mr. Heit was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and he had served as New Hampton Township Assessor for six years. He also served as secretary of the Jones Creek Local Union of the American Society of Equity from 1919 to 1923.

Survivors include his wife, Marie; a son, Bernard James of Waterloo; a daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Ruth) Rodamaker of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Martin of New Hampton and John L. of Charles City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, William, Joseph, Frank and Alphonse and two sisters, Dorothy and Matilda.
