NEW HAMPTON – Jerome J. Heit, 86, New Hampton, died Tuesday, July 13, 1999, of cancer, at the Sunrise Guest Home in Fredericksburg.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 20 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Hampton with Rev. Marvin Salz presiding. Ann Bennett will be organist and accompany the church choir. Hymns will include “Be Not Afraid”, “On Eagle’s Wings”, “Prayer of St. Francis” and “How Great Thou Art”. Jerome’s family will place the pall and his grandchildren will be gift bearers. Duane Heit will be lector.

Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Monday, July 19 at Conway Funeral Home in New Hampton, where there will be a 4 p.m. Rosary and a 7 p.m. Scripture Service.

Jerome Joseph Heit was born April 21, 1913 near New Hampton, the son of Joseph and Mary (Boellerschen) Heit. He attended the rural school and later St. Mary’s Parochial School in New Hampton. He was united in marriage with Esther L. Lange on Aug. 30, 1939 at St. Mary’s Church, New Hampton. They lived all 60 years of their married life on the same farm southeast of New Hampton.

Jerome was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Church. Over the years he attended many farm auctions as he enjoyed collecting antique farm implements and antique car parts. He was an avid fisherman and his travels included most of the United States and five trips to Europe. During his retirement he spent many mornings at coffee with his friends.

Surviving are his wife, Esther; five children, Edward (Leona) Heit, Phoenix, AZ, Allen (Linda) Heit, Ronald Heit and Duane Heit, all of New Hampton, Elaine (Paul) Campbell, Rosemount, MN; 12 grandchildren; two sisters, Lorane Holschlag, New Hampton and Eleanor Fankhauser, Williams; one brother, Ralph Heit, New Hampton.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Ray on June 29, 1999
