Donald J. Berens, age 68 of Charles City, Iowa formerly of Nashua, died Monday, August 3, 2009, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 6, 2009, at the United Methodist Church, Nashua with burial in Reading, MN.

Friends may greet the family an hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Donald was born March 18, 1941, in Sioux Falls, SD, the son of George and Geraldine (Koenen) Berens. He grew up on a farm by Reading, MN and received his education in Worthington, MN, graduating in 1959. On October 27, 1959, in Sibley, IA, he married Margaret “Peg” Agnitsch. To this union seven children were born.

The couple moved to Nashua in 1964 where Donald worked for Hydrotile, Skyline Harvester and Trinity Cable. He ended his career as an over-the-road truck driver for the Sather Candy Co. out of Round Lake, MN. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, wood-working and as a younger man raced stock cars.

Survivors include his wife, Peg; two daughters, DeAnna (Paul) Sanderson of Brooklyn Park, MN and Theresa (Alan) Brewer of Stephens City, VA; four sons, Kevin (Lori) Berens of Charlestown, WV, Steven (Shannon) Berens of Minot, ND, Matthew (Faith) Berens of Stephens City, VA and Michael (Kathryn) Berens of Indianapolis, IN; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Janet Berens of Worthington, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Anthony in infancy.
