Delight Borcherding 88, of Davenport, Iowa, formerly of New Hampton, died Sunday morning, October 11, at Genesis Medical Center, Davenport.

Funeral service is 11 a.m. Wednesday October 14, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Kevin Frey officiating. Delight's granddaughters will walk together as the crossbearer.

Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Sumner, with Chad Wottreng, Drew Borcherding, Pete Thompson, Casey Conover, Dan Bischoff and Kelly Green as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Jace Borcherding, Zack Borcherding, Fabio Castro, Joe Sternhagen, Jason Miller and Trevor Miller.

Friends may call from 4 - 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home, New Hampton. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church, Wednesday. Online condolences for Delight may be left at hugebackfuneralhome.com

If so desired, memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton, or Ridgecrest Village Foundation in Davenport.

Delight Sarah Borcherding was born August 9, 1921 in Bristow, the daughter of Carson Reuben and Mildred McCaffree (Dewey) McDowell. She graduated from the Waverly High School and continued her education at the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She became a rural Northeast Iowa School Teacher.

On December 18, 1945, at the Methodist Church in Waverly, Delight was united in marriage to Leslie W. Borcherding. To this union five children were born, two daughters and three sons. Delight was a wonderful mother and homemaker for her husband and children along with working at Healthcare Manor in New Hampton as a nursing assistant.

Delight enjoyed crocheting, crafts, sewing, baking, quilting, volunteering, and above all, spending time with her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother involved in their activities including church, sports, music, 4-H, and scouting. She was loved and admired for her gentleness, patience, empathy, understanding, generosity, wisdom and humility. She had a warm smile, loving arms, and a generous heart that she shared with everyone she met. Her faith was the foundation of her life and she was loved and admired for living her faith. She was an active volunteer in many church and community activities.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Leslie; two daughters, Marilyn (Andy) Wottreng, Brainerd, Minn. and Bev (Glen) Soenksen, Bettendorf; three sons, Ron (Diane), Dave (Kathy), both of Bettendorf, and Darryl (Jamie Treacy) of Cedar Rapids; ten grandchildren, Chad (Kacie) Wottreng, West St. Paul, Minn., Beth (Joe) Sternhagen, Mankato, Minn., Amy (Pete) Thompson, Bettendorf, Kim (Casey) Conover, Norwalk, Drew (Carolyn) Borcherding, Globe, Ariz., Dawn (Dan) Bischoff, Bettendorf, Jill (Fabio) Castro, Bettendorf, Karyn (Kelly) Green, Savage, Minn., Jace and Zack Borcherding, Cedar Rapids; three great-grandchildren, Reed Borcherding, Globe, Ariz., Jayla Bischoff, and Riley Castro of Bettendorf; and three step-grandchildren, Jason (Brandy) Miller, Clarksville, Tenn., Sarah (Ryan) Allen, Anchorage, Ark. and Trevor Miller, Colorado Springs, Colo.; one step great-grandson, Barrett Miller, Clarksville, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Reuben and Mildred McDowell, and her brother Kenneth.
