MRS. W.H. CRONAN FOUND DEAD
IN HER ROOM TUESDAY EVENING

This community was greatly startled Tuesday evening to learn that Mrs. W.H. Cronan had passed away suddenly at her home in this city during the afternoon. Mrs. Cronan had been in delicate health all summer.

She began to be troubled with a goitre upon her neck several months ago and a few weeks ago she suffered a severe spell with her heart and since then had been very poorly. On Tuesday afternoon she went to her room to lie down and rest, locking her door as she was in the habit of doing.

At 5:30 the hired girl went to her door to call her and upon receiving no response Mr. Cronan hurried upstairs and climbing out upon the roof of the porch entered her room through a window. Realizing that something was wrong, his worst fears were realized by finding his wife lying cold in death upon the bed. She still wore her glasses and by her side lay the open book which she had been reading. Her head was tucked down among the pillows and it was hard to tell whether she had struggled or not.

A doctor was hurriedly summoned and stated that she had been dead two or three hours. Mr. Cronan made it a rule to go home a couple of times both morning and afternoon to see how she was but on this afternoon he was busy and did not do so.

Rebecca Isabelle Manwarren (note: incorrect) was born at Whitewater, Wisconsin (note: incorrect) December 6, 1861. She moved from there to Algona and thence to Corwith where she was united in marriage to Wm. H. Cronan May 6, 1891. Since then she has resided at Albert Lea, MN., Traer, Manson, Ackley and Waterloo, coming to Nashua September 6, 1901.

The deceased was a woman with many noble traits of character and to know her was to love her. In her home she was an ideal wife, doing all that she could to make her home full of sunshine for the one who shared it with her. As a friend, there was none better. She was always ready to do for others, and gladly worked for those in need.

The deceased is survived by her husband, one daughter, Miss Frances Harriett Copic, of Omaha, and one son, Charles Edward Copic of Nebraska. The sympathy of many friends is with the bereaved household, especially the husband whose home is now broken up. The daughter arrived on the 5:55 afternoon train Tuesday to visit her mohter and was unconscious of her mother's death until she arrived at the home.

According to the wishes expressed by Mrs. Cronan some time previous to her death there will be but a prayer at the home tomorrow morning by Rev. Smith and a solo rendered by Mrs. Ed Baumbach, after which the remains will be taken to the deceased's old home in Algona for burial.

SUBMITTER NOTES: Rebecca Isabelle was born in White County, Indiana, the daughter of Elijah and Harriet (Vinson) Davis. The Manwaring name is the man her mother married in 1881, when Belle was 20 years old. Belle's first husband was Jesse Copic.
