D. Kammeyer Dead
Sick Long Time

Was Born in Germany
March 22, 1846. Came
to America at Age Twenty
Years. Died April 22, 1929

D. Kammeyer of this city died at the home of his son, Louis, on Monday night, April 22, 1929, following a long illness.

Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, New Hampton, tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o'clock and will be conducted by his pastor, Rev. Wm. Engelke. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery.

Diederich Henry John Kammeyer was born March 22, 1846 in Wielzen, Hanover, Germany, second oldest son of Friedrich Kammeyer. His father was a farmer. When 14 years old he was confirmed in the Lutheran church. He took up farming.

In 1866 he emigrated to America by sail. He arrived in New York after a two months voyage.

After arriving here he went directly to Proviso, west of Chicago, a worked on a farm. Two years later his parents with his two brothers and a sister came over. Together they farmed.

February 27, 1872 he married Marie Karstens. Because of cheaper land in Iowa, he bought a farm five miles south of New Hampton and moved here a year later, 1883.

In 1908 they retired and made their home in New Hampton.

Two sons were born, Fred and Louis.

In 1926 he became paralyzed on his right side and was invalid ever since that time. In the fall of the same year his wife died. Since then, he made his home with his son Louis. For a little over a year he was bedridden and barely conscious.

He was a member of the local Lutheran church since his arrival here. Faithful and true in the discharge of religious duties, as well as in civic. For nearly 25 years he was a deacon and as such bore a large share of the congregations burden. He was truly a pillar of the church. When his body is committed to the earth, we can truly say, "We have buried a good man."

His two sons and five grandchildren mourn his departure and to these we extend sympathy in their sorrow.
