H. Kammeyer Died Wednesday in Illinois

Brother of Wm. and Louis Kammeyer

Those from this vicinity who left Friday to attend the funeral of Herman Kammeyer in Hinsdale, Ill., on Saturday afternoon included:

Wm. Kammeyer and Louis F Kammeyer of this city, Mr and Mrs Henry Kammeyer, Mrs Frank Weitenhagen, August Gitsch, Mr and Mrs Paul Gitsch, Mr and Mrs Louis Gitsch, Mrs Howard Koltz and Mr and Mrs Virgil Kerr of Fredericksburg, Will Blaschke of Sumner and Mr and Mrs Fred Kammeyer of Waterloo.

He was a brother of Wm Kammeyer, Louis Kammeyer, Henry Kammeyer, Mrs Frank Weitenhagen and Fred Kammeyer, also Mrs Ed Pantke and Mrs Ted Kolzow of Hinsdale, Ill.

Mr Kammeyer died Wednesday night, Sept 7, from a stroke he suffered earlier in the evening. He had been ill about five years during which time he suffered several strokes although he was up and around most of the time.

Mr Kammeyer left the Fredericksburg vicinity years ago and for many years operated a grocery store at Hinsdale, later going into the automobile business. He retired about five years ago.

Surviving besides the four brothers and three sisters mentioned, are his wife, three sons and one daughter. He was 69 years of age.

Kammeyer Rites Held Saturday At Zion Church

Henry C Kammeyer, for 40 years a resident and prominent citizen of Hinsdale, at the age of 69 years, 10 months and 22 days, passed away suddenly at his home, 619 South Lincoln Street, Hinsdale, Wednesday evening, Sepember 7. Although Mr Kammeyer had been in ill health for the last five years, he had been able to attend to his insurance business and was down town making a few business calls on the day of his death.

Henry Kammeyer, was born in Lace, Downers Grove Township, Ill, on October 15, 1879 and when 6 years old, moved with his parents to Fredericksburg, Ia. When he was 16 years old he moved to Brookfield and later LaGrange, where he worked as a clerk for several years in Mandel Brothers store. He came to Hinsdale in 1903, and started in the grocery business for himself. On May 5, 1904, at LaGrange, he was married to Miss Minnie Dieke.

He followed the grocery business from 1903 to 1916. For a time his store was located where the Stebvens grocery is now operated on First street. He later moved to the Piccadilly location also on First street. In 1916 he also opened up a garage on Chicago avenue, operating both the grocery and garage business for a time. When the grocery business was sold, he devoted his time to the garage and also conducted an insurance agency. He continued in the garage business until 1928. He had followed the insurance business for a period of 40 years.

For 1910 to 1915 he served as a member of the Village Board of Trustees at the time John C Wood was president. He was also clerk of Downers Grove township from 1932 to 1948. Mr Kammeyer was not a candidate in 1948 on account of his failing health.

He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. His hobby was collecting coins and he had been a member of the Chicago Coin Club and American Numismatic Association for a number of years.

Besides his widow, he leaves four children, Alvin R, Miss Dorothy Kammeyer and Ralph all of Hinsdale and Robert of Kingston, Ill. He also leaves two sisters of Hinsdale, Mrs Edna Pantke, 434 South Lincoln, and Mrs Alma Kolzow, South Adams street, a sister, Mrs Mary Woltenbrogen of Iowa and four brothers of Iowa, Lewis F, William, Henry and Fred Kammeyer.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 Saturday afternoon from the Zion Lutheran church will the Rev. P H Scheer officiating. Interment was in the Zion Lutheran cemetery.
