FORMER RESIDENT DEAD

Mrs. Ann Peterson passed away at her home five miles north of Bassett on Wednesday (November 4, 1908) of last week. Some two weeks ago, she was stricken with paralysis and was very low from then until death came to her relief.

Mrs. Ann Coates was born May 10, 1836 in Manchester, England. She came to America with her parents when quite young. She was married to Perry Peterson, April 3, 1853 at Beloit, Wisconsin, who passed away some years ago. Eight children were born to this union, six daughters and two sons. Those surviving are Abel Peterson and Alma Ann Pierce of Lamar, Nebraska, and Elsie, with whom she spent her last days. She also leaves two brothers, George W. Coates of Janesville and S.A. Coates of Nashua, (plus) one sister, Elizabeth Allen of Rockford. (IL)

The deceased united with the Baptist Church when but fifteen years of age, and has since been a faithful follower, showing by each deed and act that she was not striving for a home made by hand. Her favorite hymn was:
Lord, lift me up and let me stand,
By faith on Heaven’s table land.
A higher plane than I have found.
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.

The funeral was held at the Todd Schoolhouse Friday morning, (November 6. 1908) and the remains were laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery.
