Mrs. John Young, a pioneer woman of this county, and who reached the age of eighty-six years last January, passed away at her home in this city Monday evening from an attack of pneumonia.

The funeral will take place today (Wednesday) at 9 o'clock from St. Joseph's church. Rev. J. R. Bowen, will officiate. The remains will be buried in Calvary Cemetery in this city.

Mary Glass was born in Pennsylvania on January 1, 1837. She was married in that state to John Young and they continued to make their home there for several years, when they moved to Durant, Ill. where they resided until they came to this county about sixty years ago. They took up their home on a farm north of New Hampton. Mrs. Young faced the rigor of' pioneer farm, life with a brave heart, she raised a large family of children and lived through many years of hard toil with tenderness and affection for her loved ones and with friendly and cheerfulness for those whom she cherished as neighbors and friends. Mr. Young died thirty-nine years ago. After moving to New Hampton, Mrs. Young bought a home on Broadway where she spent her declining years in a quiet, peaceful way. She was a splendid woman and leaves a cherished memory among those who knew her best and loved her most.

Of her ten children born to her, four preceded her in death. The living are: Mrs. R. I,. Larson of Minneapolis, Mrs. Win. Fennel I of New Hampton. Mrs. G. M. Smith. of New Hampton., Mrs. G..M. Coffen and P. V. Young of Los Angeles, California and J. E. Young of New Hampton. She is also survived by three brothers. James Glass of Hot Springs, S.D., Hugh Glass of Oelwein, Iowa and S, J. Glass of Oelwein and one sister, Mrs. Ellen Remetch of New Hampton. They have eleven grandchildren and six great-grand children.
