MIKE PETERS DIED WEDNESDAY AT HOSPITAL
FUNERAL SERVICES FRIDAY P.M. AT METHODIST CHURCH

Michael J. Peters, 78, better known as "Mike" died at 4:18 A.M. in St. Joseph's hospital. On Monday morning, he had undergone amputation of his left leg above the knee, made necessary by hardening of the arteries. He had been in failing health for three months and had been hospitalized for two weeks previous to the operation. Death was attributed to a heart complication that developed.

The body was taken to Perry Chapel, where funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. and at 2:00 P.M. from the Methodist church with the Rev. Paul Clements, officiating. Robert Utterback and Jack Kendall will sing "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beyond The Sunset".

Interment will be in Graceland cemetery with six nephews as pallbearers, Frank Schnurr, Carl Roths, Ed Krueger, Ralph Shinstine, Fred Peters and Russell Brannon.

Michael John Peters, son of Nicholas and Magdalene Derga Peters, was born June 15, 1877 in Dayton Township in Chickasaw County. They established their home in New Hampton, where Mr. Peters was an employee of the Chicago Great Western Railroad until 1907, when they moved to a farm. They farmed until 1925 when they returned to New Hampton. He again took up employment with the railroad for a period of ten years, when he began to work for the Stolz Construction Co. His last employment was with the New Hampton Poultry Co., retiring in 1948. Eight children were born to this union.

Mr. Peters was a member of the Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. James (Mabel) Wilson and Mrs. Lawrence (Lillian) Kalkbrenner of New Hampton; five sons, George, Glenn and Clyde of New Hampton, Clinton and John of Charles City; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Mary Krueger and Mrs. Teresa Schnurr of New Hampton; Mrs. Susan Roths of Nashua, Mrs. Francis Shinstine of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin and Mrs. Lena Brannon of Waterloo and one brother, Nick Peters of New Hampton.
