P. H. Brannon Died Last Monday Eve.
Noted Citizen of Town and County Given to Tomb. 73 Years Old.
P. H. Brannon, well known and highly respected citizen of this town, and county, died at his home in this city, Monday, December 29, 1930, at 9:30 p. m. Heart failure was the immediate cause, but Mr. Brannon has been ill and unable to work for a long time. His death comes as a relief to him from his worldly cares and marks the closing of the life of a good man.
His funeral was held December 31, 1930 from St. Joseph’s church at 9 o’clock in the morning. Services were conducted by the pastor Rev. T. J. Dowling assisted by Reverend Father Griffin of Fort Dodge, cousin to Mr. Brannon. Burial was in Calvary cemetery.
The deceased was born at Waucoma, October 11, 1857, a son of Lawrence and Julia (Griffin) Brannon. He grew to manhood in the Waucoma and Lawler communities, attended the best schools of his neighborhood and the Decorah Institute, famous in its time. He taught school, but later entered the grain and live stock business.
In 1892 he came to New Hampton and was owner and operator of the Brannon Grain Elevator which he managed for upwards of thirty years. He was active in city affairs and was many times a councilman of our town. He was a public spiritetd{sic} and natable{sic} citizen.
In 1889 Mr. Brannon was united in marriage to Miss Catherine I. Quirk, of Delaware County. Two children were born to them, one of whom, Mrs. Mary Summerfield, of Charles City survives. His wife passed away in January 1901 and in February 1906 was married to Miss Hannah T. Boyle of Edgerton, Wisconsin. To this union four children were born Madeline, Lawrence, Adelaide and James, all of whom, with their mother, survives.
To all of his family we extend sincere sympathy in their great sorrow and heavy loss.
