OBITUARY.
SMITH.
Died at his home in Howard county, Iowa, October 6, 1909, George Smith, aged 52 years last May.
The subject of our sketch was born in Utica township, Chickasaw county, Iowa, grew to man’s estate, united in marriage Nov. 29, 1885 to Miss Rose Ann Galligher. Three children were born to this union, Rose, Eugene and Edward. He leaves besides his wife and children, two brothers and one sister, besides a large circle of friends to mourn his untimely taking away.
He was a man universally liked by everyone who knew him. A kind husband and father and a good neighbor in every sense of the word, always a word of greeting for every one, and his death is one of the saddest within our memory, caused by overheating while at work threshing, ending in paralysis of the brain.
Solemn high mass was celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church Friday morning, Father Norris of Lourdes, and Kramolis of Little Turkey assisting Father Sampson. The music was rendered by the Hewett’s of Lawler.
The pall bearers were Thomas McCarville of Lourdes, Patrick Fitzgerald of Lourdes, John Daley of Cresco, Will, Ralph and James Whalen of Jerico, and Ed Smith of Saude.
The floral offerings were many and beautiful. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery adjoining the church, followed by a large concourse of friends and neighbors.Transcriber's Note: Find a Grave shows he was born in 1858.
