Obituary
Died, at his residence in Jacksonville, Twp., July 11, 1889, Atle Jenson in the 70th year of his age. He had been ailing for some time and his last sickness was dropsy. Mr. Jenson was born in Bergen, Norway, and lived there till 27 years ago, when he moved with his family to Wisconsin. He lived there two years then came to this county and bought a farm on Crane Creek. Together with his dutiful wife and family he cleared the farm that does honor to his untiring energy, and is an emblem of the thrift of his race. He was married when quite a young man to Segri Johannas Veuness, who has ever toiled by his side as a faithful partner and who survives him at an age but little less than his. There was born to them eight children – five sons and three daughters, all the children still living except Hans, who came to so untimely an end while going home from Lawler about four months ago. This was a hard shock to the old man and as he had been afflicted with asthma for some time it was easy to bring on the disease that terminated his earthly cares. During his illness he was a patient sufferer and the strong man yielded not till life had ebbed away, demonstrating that the mind is master even unto death. He was conscious till the last moments of his existence, and knew the family as well as though he had years yet to live. He was attended by Rev. Moses who administered to him the rites of the religion that had consoled him during his stay here. The funeral took place from the Lutheran Church on Crane Creek Saturday afternoon. And so another of the toiling many has passed away. It is such as he that make our country what it is. Mr. Jenson was a kind and generous neighbor, an indulgent father, and a good and faithful husband, and his aged widow and family have the sympathy of all who know them. A friend, W.J.N.
