Twelve-year-old Boy at Jerico Loses Life at Play with His Younger Brother
New Hampton Tribune News of a shocking accident reached New Hampton from Jerico this morning. Oscar, the twelve-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. O. Ottoson, living about a mile east of Jerico, was shot and instantly killed yesterday evening by a younger brother ten years old. The two boys were left at home with the other and younger children and in their play a shot-gun was taken from its place, a shell which was thought by them to be empty placed in the barrel and in the hands of the younger brother the gun was aimed at his brother, who was sitting on the door. The trigger was pulled, a loud report followed and the little boy fell over dead, a terrible hole being torn through his neck by the shot. The younger brother was so excited and beside himself with grief over the horrible accident that he was unable to tell just how it happened but from the scraps of the story which have been pieced together the foregoing are thought to be substantially correct. The accident is a most sad and distressing one and the parents have the deepest sympathy of all.
