OBITUARY.

A Pioneer Called,

Mrs. Mary Mahoney, of Utica township, died Monday evening, June 24, after a short illness.

Mary Spellacy was born In County Claire, Ireland, in 1842, and at the ago of 18 years she came with her parents to Dayton, Ohio, where she was united in marriage to Michael Mahoney. Forty-four years ago she and her husband came to Chickasaw county and located in Utica township on the homestead which has been the family residence ever since. Eight years ago her husband, Michael Mahoney, died.

She is survived by four sons and two daughters, John, Michael, Thomas and Edward, and Mrs. Mary Connell and Maggie. She has a brother and a sister surviving—James Spellacy and Mrs. Ellen Canfield of Iola, Kansas.

Deceased was a faithful and devout follower of the teachings of the Roman Catholic church, and, died in the enjoyment of its sacred rites and privileges. She was a good mother, wife and neighbor. The large number who gathered at the Reilly Settlement church on Wednesday to attend her funeral, bearing witness to this fact. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Father Hassett.
