Deaths.
HOLSCHLAG - At his home four miles south of New Hampton, on Friday, Nov. 11, 1899, Mr. Henry Holschlag aged 56 years, 1 month and 16 days.
Deceased was a native of Germany but almost his entire life was passed in this country, he having come here with his parents when four years of age. He grew to manhood on his father's farm near Davenport, Iowa, and it was at that place in September, 1864 that he was united in marriage with Miss Adelaide Brus, with whom he continued in loving companionship until death's cruel summons called him from her side. The family moved to this county in 1875 and settled on the farm which has ever since been their home.
A year ago last spring Mr. Holschlag began to suffer from stomach trouble. Though apparently slightly better at times, the course of the disease continued to undermine his health and it became apparent that a cancerous or tumerous growth was the cause. His decline was almost steady from the the first and when the end came it found the sufferer and his family as well prepared as loved ones ever are to face the final separation.
The funeral was held from St. Mary's church in this city Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. Fr. Roessler celebrating requiem mass, and the remains were laid to rest in the church cemetery.
Deceased was a man of many sterling qualities. Industry had won for him a goodly heritage, while the strictest integrity marked his dealings with all. He was a true type of loyal citizen and Christian gentleman. He leaves besides his wife eight children —Mrs. William Delsing of Dunlap, Neb., H. W. Holschlag, Jr., Mrs. Lena Brus and Mrs. Nick Peters, all living in this locality. and Theodore, John, Bernard and Mary at home.
