Too late for Tuesday’s PLAIN DEALER, we were informed over the telephone of the death of Ole T. Vaale, one of the most prominent Norwegians of Chickasaw county residing at Saude. He was on his way home from Lawler with a load of flour and when about three miles out his sleigh was overturned with him beneath the load resulting in his death.

Our friend O. G. Vaala is no more. Sunday Jan. 27th we shook hands, Monday night he passed to the unknown land from where none have as yet returned. Monday night he left Lawler at about 10:30, with his load of flour, 56 sacks, with his uncle, Olf Oleson, neither got home that night, a searching party was sent early the next morning and found O. G. Vaala dead under the load of flour four or five miles north of Lawler. The coroners jury returned a verdicd{sic} of death as the result of a fall from a sleigh which fractured his shoulder blade and fatal internal injuries.

Accidentally Killed.
New Hampton Tribune.— A shocking accident occurred near Bingham farm north of Lawler last night (28th ult.) which resulted in the death of Ole Vaala and maybe Alf Oleson. The men had spent the day in Lawler, and after purchasing a load of flour and other necessities left for home at 10:30. The team ran away, and they were unable to manage them. They upset the load of flour and broke loose from the wagon and returned home. As the men did not put in an appearance a search was instituted with the shocking result of finding Mr. Vaala dead beneath the load of flour and Mr. Oleson missing. Up to noon today his whereabouts was still unknown and it is feared that he too has been killed or frozen to death
Mr Vaala was a man about 40 years of age, unmarried and lived with his parents near Saude. His tragic death is a sad blow to everyone who learns of it. Alf Oleson will be remembered as a past member of the board of supervisors, a man who stands well in his community. He is an uncle of the young man who was killed.
Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows this was Ola who is buried in Saude Lutheran Cemetery and was born Dec. 10, 1859 and died Jan. 28, 1901.
