Jesup, Iowa – Marjorie Ann Hagarty, 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, December 3, 2017, at the Hiawatha Care Center. A visitation honoring Marjorie will be held from 3-8 pm at White Funeral Home in Jesup, Iowa on Friday, December 8th.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 9th at St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup, Iowa. A final visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday, at the church.
Marjorie was born the daughter of Pearle and Edgar Hammond on November 21, 1924 in Nashua, Iowa. The youngest of six children, Marjorie graduated from Charles City High School in 1942. She and Patrick Hagarty were united in Matrimony on May 9th, 1942 and they were blessed with 14 children.
Left to honor her memory are thirteen children Donna Lash-Andersen (Svend), Ray (Arline), Tim (Sheri), Veronica Mangrich (Lee), Dennis, Greg (Diana), Sheila Lehman, Kevin (Kristy), Maureen Drexler (Rod), Marcia Bedard (Tony), Steve (Diane), Brian (Diane), Michelle Noonan (Bill), 44 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, one sister Elna Ponto of Overland Park, KS, and one sister-in-law, Patricia Hagarty of Charles City, Iowa.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Leland Hagarty on January 5, 2006; one son, Terry; five grandchildren; three brothers: Glen, Claire and Max Hammond; and one sister, Lorraine Powers.
Marjorie was a member of St. Athanasius Parish, Jesup and St. Pius X Parish, Cedar Rapids. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She truly loved participating in Bible Study with her dear friends from St. Pius. She also served as secretary of the Resident’s Council at Hiawatha Care Center.
Marjorie was a woman of tremendous faith and wisdom. She will be remembered for her dignity, grace, humility, and compassion. She enjoyed family gatherings, playing cards, quilting, reading, cooking for her family, (especially her potato salad) wintering in Arizona and traveling in their retirement. She loved and was very proud of each of her 99 grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Hiawatha Care Center for loving and caring for our dear Mother during her 3-year stay.
Memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous of Iowa or to the Marjorie Hagarty memorial fund for charitable contributions.
