OLATHE, KS - Wayne A. Ward, 66, Olathe, KS, formerly of New Hampton, died at his home on Saturday, July 22 of cancer.

A Celebration of Life Mass was held Thursday, July 22 at 11 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Olathe.

The family received friends at the church from 10-11 a.m.

Wayne donated his remains to the Willed Body Program of the University of Kansas Medical School.

Wayne was born March 12, 1934 in New Hampton, the son of Gerald and Lily (Olson) Ward. He graduated from New Hampton High School in 1952. Wayne and his twin brother, Wes, joined the U.S. Navy in October 1952 and he served four years during the Korean Conflict as a radioman, receiving an honorable discharge in October 1956. He attended Marshalltown Telegraph School in Marshalltown before hiring on with the former Northern Pacific Railroad in 1957 where he was employed 36 years in various positions, retiring in August 1993. He married Alice M. Tiemessen on Aug. 23, 1958 in North Washington. Wayne lived in Olathe the past 17 years, moving there from Inver Grove Heights, MN. He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church and the Transportation Communications International Union. He enjoyed his family, computers, woodworking, sports and animals, especially his cat, Felix.

Surviving are his wife, Alice; two sons, Matthew (Monica), Lee's Summit, MO and Martin, Golden Valley, MN; one grandson. Miles Matthew Ward; two brothers, twin Wesley (Alice) and Donald (Barbara), both of Waterloo; a sister, Betty Parker, Lakeland, FL; numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a half-brother, Jerry Ward; a nephew, Andrew Wayne Ward.
