PROTIVIN - Emil J. Panos, 76, Protivin, died Tuesday, Jan. 4 at his home of natural causes.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7 at Holy Trinity Worship Center, Protivin, with Rev. Allen Schmitt as celebrant. Marlene Pecinovsky will be organist, accompanying the Holy Trinity Choir. Lector is Eugene Kovarik, Eucharistic Minister is Ruth Praska; Mass servers are Kyle Panos and Nathan Mracek. Presenting the offertory gifts will be his grandchildren.

Interment is in St. Mary's Cemetery, Little Turkey, with his five _ sons-in-law, Joe SchwiCkerath; Ron\: Hackman, Marshall Meier, Kevin ~ Alexander and Connie Langreck as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation was 3-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6 at Hugeback Funeral Home, Protivin, with a 4 p.m. Rosary and 4:30 p.m. Parish Scripture Service and also at the funeral home an hour prior to services on Friday.

Emil was born near Little Turkey on March 9, 1923, the son of Albert J. and Mary (Riha) Panos. He attended Utica #6 rural school. On Aug. 28, 1954, he married Adelyne Klimesh at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin. Following their marriage, the couple lived and farmed near Little Turkey on the farm where Emil was raised. In 1956, he began doing carpentry work and in 1963, started Panos Construction. Emil continued farming until 1966 and moved into Protivin in 1967, retiring when he was 64. His hobbies included playing cards, fishing, video games, traveling, gardening and flowers.

Survivors include his wife, Adelyne; three sons and their wives, Gary and Sue, Jim and Sharon, Ken and Mary Jo, all of Protivin; five daughters and spouses, Norma and Ron Hackman, Waucoma, Margaret Bell, Council Bluffs, Arlene and Marshall Meier, Brookfield, WI, Marion and Kevin Alexander, Waterloo, Rose Ann and Joe Schwickerath, New Hampton; a son-in-law, Connie Langreck, West Union; 27 grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a daughter, Geraldine Langreck in 1999; three sisters, Mildred Gebel, Celia Schwamman and Clara Franzen; two brothers, Adolph and Leonard Panos.
