Obituary for Lawrence Bunston

Lawrence William Bunston age 86 of Ionia, Iowa, died Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center -- North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.

Lawrence William Bunston was born January 2, 1930, in rural Howard County, Iowa, the son of Stephen and Martha (Lubbert) Bunston. He attended country schools in Howard County.

Lawrence started training in the St. Paul, Minnesota, area to become a linesman and an arborist at a young age. After his training he was hired by Black Hawk County before going to work for Iowa Electric Light and Power as a foreman. He met the love of his life, Vera, at a dance in Powersville. The couple was married on October 19, 1951 in Preston, Minnesota.

The couple later settled down in Charles City and Lawrence started his own company, Little Cedar Log and Lumber. After some years in Charles City they moved to Ionia. Lawrence retired in 1992.

Working was Lawrence’s favorite thing to do. He had an incredible work ethic. Running the sawmill was one of his favorite hobbies along with going hunting.

Lawrence is survived by his wife Vera of Ionia, Iowa; three sons: Larry Bunston of Ionia, Iowa, Steven Bunston of Charles City, Iowa, Darrin Bunston of Charles City; one daughter, Barbara Bunston of Charles City, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three brothers; and one sister.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
