MAURICE CORY DIES AT 72

Funeral services were held October 30 for Maurice Cory, brother of Mrs. Floyd (Merle) Eckenrod, at Bellville, Ill. Death at the age of 72 was ascribed to cancer. After serving in the Navy in World War I he was a clerk for the Illinois Central Railroad for 47 years before retiring in 1966.

A physical fitness devotee and endurance runner, Mr. Cory was the oldest participant at the age of 68 in the 1969 Boston Marathon. He negotiated the annual 26 mile event in four hours and 29 minutes.

Surviving are his widow, the former Ferne Gushard; a daughter, Mrs. Welcome of Belleville, two sons: Creighton and Kerrigan of California; a sister, Mrs. Floyd Eckenrod of Ionia; a brother Cecil Cory of Granite City and four grandchildren.

Those attending the funeral from this area were Mr. Mrs. Floyd Eckenrod, Mrs. Melvin Kalvig and Mrs. Robert Walton, all of Ionia; Mrs. Milo Merritt of Osage and Mrs. Dave Bearman of Marble Rock.
