BATTLES JOHN KEARNS DIED
OF MENINGITIS

New Hampton, Ia., May 2, Special: John I. Kearns, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Kearns living near Jerico, died from meningitis at Camp Dodge Hospital. His remains were brought home for burial and were received by a large circle of friends.

John Kearns fought valiantly with the English and Australian troops in the battles of the Somme, Argonne Forest and St. Mihiel sector. He was shelled by German airplanes and wounded by shrapnel at Verdun. New Hampton is proud of his military record. A host of friends are saddened by his sudden death.
