Reynold Nehl, age 88, of Alta Vista, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2015, at his home with his family by his side.
Reynold Mathias Nehl was born February 2, 1927, to Clarence and Elizabeth (Elenz) Nehl on the family farm near Alta Vista. He attended school through the eighth grade. On November 27, 1946, Reynold was united in marriage to the love of his life Delores Rohe at Immaculate Conception Church in North Washington, Iowa. The couple made their home near Alta Vista. On April 28, 1952 they adopted a son, Charles Michael Nehl. In 1973, Delores and Ray moved their family into Alta Vista where they owned and operated the Del Ray Inn for three and a half years. From 1976 to 1983 he operated his own carpentry business.
In 1983 Reynold and Delores purchased the local lumber yard and named it Rays Lumber Yard. The couple retired in 2004.
Reynold was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church and Catholic Order of Foresters. He enjoyed dancing with the love of his life. In his younger years he enjoyed playing baseball with his son. More recently, Reynold passed his time playing cards with the card group at Shucky’s, watching the Chicago Cubs and reminiscing with his friends and family.
Left to honor his memory is his daughter-in-law, Vickie Nehl of Alta Vista; Four Grandchildren, Michael (Emily) Nehl of Alta Vista, Tom Nehl of Alta Vista, Christy (Adam) Roethler of Alta Vista and Lynn (Tyler Edmiston) Nehl of Monroe, LA; five great-grandchildren, Jayda Nehl, Layne Nehl, Cody Nehl, Titus and Charlie Roethler, and Baby Edmiston soon to be expected; brothers, Kenny (Delores) Nehl, Bill (Mary) Nehl, and Joe (Larraine) Nehl; sisters, Joanne (Wilfred) Walz, Florence (Donald) Boss, his sisters-in-law, Virginia Nehl; Sharon Nehl and Margie Fitzgerald; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 68 years, Delores on May 10, 2015; his son, Charles “Chuck” Nehl; brothers, Wally Nehl, Lawrence Nehl, Bob Nehl and Ed Nehl; brothers-in-law, Louie Flaherty, Leo Fitzgerald, Gerald Fitzgerald, Bill Fitzgerald and sisters-in-law, Lois Nehl; Mary Flaherty, Annie Fitzgerald and Jean Fitzgerald.
