Obituary for Mila Mae J. Meyer

Mila M. Meyer, age 94, of New Hampton, Iowa, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2015 at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage, Iowa.

Mila Mae Josephine was born on November 13, 1920 to John and Rose (TeKippe) Eschweiler in New Hampton. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School for eight years and graduated from New Hampton High School in 1938. She was a legal secretary for a short time for a law firm in Spencer, Iowa, and was also employed at Chamberlain’s in Waterloo during World War II.

On January 16, 1945, Mila Mae was united in marriage to Thomas C. Meyer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Hampton. The couple spent their life farming south of New Hampton in partnership with Thomas’ brother, Edward, until they retired in 1971.

Mila Mae enjoyed playing the piano, crocheting, spending time with her senior friends at the senior center and calling Bingo. She also won awards in high school for her typing skills.

Mila Mae is survived by her children, Thomas E. Meyer of Osage, Iowa and Mary Jo (Richard) Love of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her grandchildren; Sarah (Jason) Meyer-Reyerson of Shell Rock, Iowa, Thomas R. (Monica) Meyer of Kensett, Iowa, Carrie (Nick) Sparrow of Osage, Iowa, Wanda Love of Dubugue, Iowa, and Dustin Mottinger of Charles City, Iowa; her great-grandchildren, Grace, Ethan, Thomas J., Brandon, Collin, Jack, Ella, Christopher, Harlan, and Tegan; her sister, Bernadette “Sissie” Unterberger of Shell Rock, Iowa; her brother, Larry Eschweiler and family friend, John Lyons both of Vancouver, Wash., and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas C. Meyer in 1977; her daughter-in-law, Catherine Meyer; twin great-grandsons, Jerome and Richard; her siblings, Robert, John and Leonard and Geraldine in infancy; and brother-in-law, Edward Meyer.
