Bassett Pioneer Died At Age 84 Years
Spent 76 Years In Iowa and Lived in Deerfield Twp For About 68 Years

Bassett Crn. - John TRASK, son of S.B. and Rebecca TRASK, was born at Deerfield Massachusetts, August 19, 1845, and died at this farm home, three miles northwest of Bassett, Iowa May 1, 1930, aged 84 years and 8 months and 12 days.

He came to Iowa at the age of eight years and has spent 76 years in this state and came to Deerfield Township, Chickasaw County, Iowa sixty eight ago and has since that time been a resident here.

He was united in marriage with Miss Lucy A. JENKINS at New Hampton, Iowa, October 15, 1868 and to this union six children were born. His wife preceded him in death, on April 19 of this year, just 13 days previous to his own departure.

He leaves to mourn his departure the following children: William H. Trask of Bassett, Iowa; Ethel A., now Mrs. Oscar FREDERICI of Ionia; Hattie, now Mrs Louis NYHAN of Waterloo; and Evelyn, now Mrs. Bert MICHAEL of Charles City, Iowa, also fifteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Two children, Emily and Charles, preceded their parents in death. Mr. TRASK was a man of sterling integrity and lived an honorable and upright life, ever taking an active part in the business of the farm until sickness and the infirmities of old age interfered. A true pioneer, he was endured to hardship and knew how to meet the varied problems of the early days on the prairie of Iowa.

Funeral Services were conducted by Rev. G.A. Hess, pastor of the First Christian Church of Charles City Iowa, at the Bassett Community Church, Saturday afternoon, May 3, 1930 with interment at Rowley Hill cemetery.
